NEW YEAR, NEW CLOTHES

In honor of New Year's Eve, I am posting my fave party looks from 2008. I tend to favor the simple modern party look. And, it's now obvious that I'm obsessed with Eva Mendes.

SHE MADE CHARLIE ROSE GIGGLE

"Although PBS's Charlie Rose is frequently so engaged in his interviews that he consumes more airtime than his guests do, it isn't often that he's reduced to an hour of schoolboy giggles, capped off by proclaiming, "I'm mad for you!" The woman who makes Charlie's knees shake? Anne Bancroft, the thinking man's fantasy, and the kind of woman thinking women want to be. Bancroft is on fire with ideas, brimming with passions, supremely confident and self-aware, without taking herself too seriously or pretending to have all the answers. She turned 70 on Sept. 17, and she still has a body that's ballerina graceful, eyes that reveal the truth (a poker player she is not) and a voice that seems to say, "I'm not gonna take any bullshit," even as "Why, thank you, Sweetheart" leaves her mouth."
(Salon, Sept 2001)

I have a lifelong love affair with Anne Bancroft. To me she is perfect. In 7th grade I insisted on doing the slap scene from the Turning Point for the school talent show. Needless to say it was underappreciated. I'm still trying to let go of that resentment - of an entire middle school and their parents. I should let it go... Anne would have had a cig and said the following:

"I was at a point where I was ready to say I am what I am because of what I am and if you like me I'm grateful, and if you don't, what am I going to do about it?"
-Anne Bancroft, age 26

LIMITED EDITION: LA COLLECTION PARIS-MOSCOU

Chanel's limited edition Russian Empire collection nail colors are a lovely $30 way to embrace the current Russian trend.

Also a very fashionable last-minute stocking stuffer.

OBSESSED: BIANCA SMITH PAINTINGS

I'm newly obsessed with Bianca Smith's Picasso-inspired paintings. She hunts down ornate frames from antique shops, and matches the paintings to the frames.

The cat one is so amazing, and frankly I'm really depressed I didn't do it myself, of my own cats.

This "Purple Chandelier" is sparkle-tastic. Gorge.

YES PLEASE: THOMAS BURBERRY FABULOUSITY

Dear Santa,

Pleeeeaaaaaase? I will be good. No more gummi bears. Only one cup of coffee a day. Fewer vending machine binges and more fruit and veg.

Thanks Santa. Love ya mean it!

TAKE YOU HOME WITH ME

Current obsessions:

Eileen Fisher bedding. There is nothing more important than good bedding. I like my living room/kitchen/bathroom to have some bright colors, but for bedding I like it to be calm-inducing... god knows I don't need help not sleeping. Just looking at Eileen Fisher bedding makes me want to go to sleep. The colors.. the textures... I'm tired just writing about it.

Some other home fun... at Apartment Therapy you can take tours of people's houses/apartments. Looking at other people's houses is like internet porn for me... I can't stop. It's the best form of free and legal voyeurism there is.

Here are some of my very favorite home images. Some are from me skeeving all over Apartment Therapy, some are just collected. Liquid Sky Arts is a constant home inspiration.

An image from the Paris Taschen book. I'm really into clutter chic:

This is, quite simply, the best room ever. How come when I throw my shit everywhere every morning when I wake up an hour late it doesn't look like that?
